Particle Direction

In Activity 1, "Hess' Balloon Ride," you discovered that the particle detection rate increases at higher altitudes, exactly the opposite of Hess' prediction.

In Activity 2,"Geiger Array: Particle Direction" you will continue to investigate and study the unusual particles that perplexed Hess and many other scientists.

Investigation:

  1. Do these background radiation particles move in any particular direction?
  2. Are they coming from above, below, or one side or the other?

Do this:
Write the lab title and the investigation questions into your lab notebook unless a handout is provided.
